Classes are held conveniently at your local branch throughout the year.

This is a blended class, meaning videos will need to be watched at home so a laptop/computer is required. Doesn’t work well on phones.

Lifeguard Certification

Requirements:

  • Complete 7 hours of online training prior to class.
  • Able to swim 300 yards without stopping
  • Complete 10lb brick retrieval in 9 foot water depth
  • Tread water for 2 minutes
  • Must be 15 years old on first day of class

May 10th, 17th, 24th:

  • 10th: 8AM-10AM

Lifeguard Certification

Be apart of bigger cause, as a lifeguard you will provide safe environment to your community. In this course, you will be taught by a certified American Red-cross lifeguard instructor. Come and help provide for your community!

-First aid and professional rescuer CPR/AED training
-Professional lifeguard responsibilities

Must be able to: Swim 150 meters, tread water without hands for 2 minutes, Backstroke with a 10 lbs weight.

Shallow Water Lifeguarding Certification

West Chatham

This is an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Course that provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 6 feet and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. The class will be presented in a blended format – online coursework will be sent out via email 1 week prior to class start and must be completed prior to last day of class.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 15 years
  • Swim 150 yards continuously
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
  • Complete a timed event within 50 seconds: Swim 20 yards, submerge to a depth of 4 to 5 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

Certification is valid 2 years and awarded upon successful completion of the course. Class will be held at the West Chatham YMCA.
