Lucky's Market Will Host Impact Day to benefit YMCA of Coastal Georgia

Published 03.18.16

Lucky’s Market has named the YMCA of Coastal Georgia the recipient of their upcoming Impact Day. Through the generosity of Lucky’s Market, the YMCA will receive 10 percent of the day’s sales on March 29. These funds will benefit the YMCA’s Early Learning Readiness program, a bilingual program that teaches caregivers how to help preschool aged children in their care to learn through play.

Held quarterly, Impact Days are an essential part of Lucky’s Community Project. Lucky’s Community Project is an ongoing endeavor to create lasting change in the communities they serve. The YMCA of Coastal Georgia was selected as the local charity for the March Impact Day.

Thanks to the generosity of Lucky’s Market, the YMCA’s 37-week Early Learning Readiness (ELR) program will be offered to families at no cost to them. The ELR program is geared toward families with limited access to other early childhood education options. According to a 2011 Urban Institute study, an estimated 75 percent of preschool aged children in low-income families use Spanish as their primary language. Using a bilingual curriculum that teaches caregivers how to help preschool aged children in their care learn through play, the ELR program supports a strong educational foundation to ensure that children start kindergarten ready to learn.

Joel Smoker, President/CEO of the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, says, “We are incredibly appreciative to Lucky’s Market for selecting the YMCA of Coastal Georgia as the benefactor for this quarter’s Impact Day.” He added, “We are honored to partner with an organization with the same goal of supporting the communities we serve. The proceeds from Impact Day will allow us to engage and educate an underserved population, at no cost to them. We are confident that Early Learning Readiness participants are empowered to grow, thrive and succeed academically after the program.”

Staff and instructors from the YMCA will be onsite from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on March 29th providing a variety of activities and resources for Lucky’s Market shoppers. While you shop, join our staff as we offer blood pressure checks, balance testing, fitness activities, healthy eating games and sharing information about our programs and services available through the Y.
