Stay Safe & Healthy With Us

Facility Update-May 12, 2020

We missed you! We are looking forward to seeing you in our branches and welcoming our members back in the safest way possible.  As we promised, we are excited to share some additional services that will be re-introduced for our members in the coming weeks.

It’s nearly summer and we know many are anxious to dive into our pools. Pending annual inspections from our local Health Departments, all indoor and outdoor pools will open Tuesday, May 26th.

  • Lap swim will be available with one swimmer per lane
  • A schedule of aquatic activities including water aerobics, free swim and lap swim will be shared in the branch, on our website and via social media prior to May 26th.
  • Class size for water aerobics may be limited at some branches
  • Pool attendance will have a limited capacity to ensure adequate distance between members.
  • Swimming lessons will resume in June.

In accordance with Governor Kemp’s announcement on May 12th, whirlpools, saunas and steam rooms will remain closed at this time.

We have received many requests for group fitness classes and we know that you enjoy not only our great line-up of group fitness classes but our talented instructors. Beginning May 24th, we will begin to offer limited group fitness classes at all YMCA of Coastal Georgia branches.

Please note that to ensure adequate distance between members and appropriate cleaning protocol for equipment, some classes may not be available just yet. Additionally, we will be limiting class size or temporarily relocating classes outside to ensure we can maintain the required six feet of distancing between members. We will share class schedules on our website and social media pages.

For those who are not yet ready to visit our facilities, we understand! We will continue to provide live stream fitness classes on our social media channels and on our Youtube channel.

Also beginning on May 24th, we will open access to other areas within our YMCA facilities for member use. Please see the additional facility operations:

  • Gym access will be available for shooting baskets only. No scrimmages, pick-up games or one-on-one games will be permitted at this time.
  • Pickleball will resume, with limited schedules and number of players per session.
  • Locker rooms will reopen with capacity requirements.

As many are preparing to return to work or looking for engaging summer activities for their children, we are busy planning a fun-filled summer. We will be planning to re-open our full time child learning centers and open Summer Day Camp beginning Monday, June 1, 2020. We will be sharing more information about registration, operations and new safety protocols for these programs in the next few days.

We are so grateful for your cooperation and partnership maintaining safety at our facilities. We cannot thank you enough for staying with us as we step back into operations and begin moving forward together. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are ready.

May 1, 2020

Our top priority has been the health and safety of our members and staff. As we previously shared, we have worked closely with the Coastal Health District to create a YMCA Phased Re-Opening Plan and to implement guidelines to safely re-open.

Based on the guidance we received, we have plans to open the following branches on Monday, May 11, under our YMCA Phase One guidelines:

  • Effingham YMCA, Rincon
  • Golden Isles YMCA, Brunswick
  • Liberty County YMCA, Hinesville
  • McIntosh County, YMCA, Darien
  • Richmond Hill YMCA, Richmond Hill
  • Statesboro Family YMCA, Statesboro

When these locations open on May 11th, service will primarily be limited to the main wellness area. Indoor and Outdoor Pools WILL NOT be opening in YMCA Phase One operations. Additionally, we are not able to offer Childcare or Childwatch in our YMCA Phase One plan. For more information on our YMCA Phase One plan, please see below.

BRANCHes opening on May 18, 2020

Based on guidance we received, we have plans to open Chatham County branches on Monday, May 18, under our YMCA Phase One guidelines:

  • HabershamYMCA, Savannah
  • Islands Family YMCA, Savannah
  • Tybee Island YMCA, Tybee Island
  • West Chatham YMCA, Pooler

When these locations open on May 11th, service will primarily be limited to the main wellness area. Indoor and Outdoor Pools WILL NOT be opening in YMCA Phase One operations. Additionally, we are not able to offer Childcare or Childwatch in our YMCA Phase One plan. For more information on our YMCA Phase One plan, please see below.

If you chose to keep your membership active and stay with us, there is nothing you need to do. Your April membership draft was converted to a tax-deductible gift and you will receive a tax-letter at the end of the year.

If your local Y remains closed, or you do not yet feel comfortable visiting us and your membership has been placed on hold, it will stay on hold and you will not be charged anything.

For those who have memberships on hold and choose to visit an open facility, you will be charged a pro-rated amount of your monthly dues for May within 48 hours of your first visit. You should be reminded of this pending charge at the time of your first visit. Your membership draft will then be placed back on it’s normal draft cycle beginning in the month of June.

If you prefer, you can contact us directly to remove the hold before visiting. You may call your local branch Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm or email us to reactivate here. This will avoid any delay on your first visit to the branch.

If you have a specific question regarding your membership, you can contact us here.

When we open our facilities for YMCA Phase One operations, this is what will be available:

The YMCA Facilities mentioned above will open with the following Hours of Operation (NOW INCLUDING MCINTOSH COUNTY):

Monday  - Friday: 7 am  - 7 pm*   Saturday:  7 am – 12 pm   Sunday: Closed

*We will close for cleaning daily from 1 – 1:30 pm and open for SENIORS ONLY Monday- Friday 1:30-2:30

  • Access is limited to our Fitness Centers and Bathrooms ONLY: Our locker rooms and pools will remain closed at this time.
  • Cardio Equipment has been rearranged to provide required distance; some equipment has been moved to different areas of the facility to allow for proper distance.
  • Group Exercise classes will not be offered in YMCA Phase One in our buildings, however, you can still enjoy a wide variety of classes across our social media platforms. Our instructors worked to create and provide over 88 hours of virtual instruction in April alone.
  • Child Watch will not be offered.
  • Facilities will be open to our members only. We will not be offering or accepting guest passes at this time.

When our facilities re-open, we will be taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our members and staff. This means things will look and feel a little different. When you come back to the Y, this is what you can expect:

  • All Staff and Members will be screened before entering the facility. A screener will be at the entrance to take your temperature and ask a few screening questions before you will be allowed to enter.
  • All Members will be required to sign a Waiver.
  • All Members will receive hand sanitizer before entering the facility.
  • We are STRONGLY encouraging our members to wear protective masks and gloves. Please bring these items with you when you come to the Y.
  • All Members are REQUIRED to maintain a six-foot social distance.
  • Towel service will not be available. If you require a towel, please plan to bring one with you.
  • All Members should sanitize equipment after each use. Sanitizing spray and paper towels will be stationed near the equipment to help with this task.

  • Our staff will be working to help monitor and make sure members are maintaining social distance. Please help them by doing your part to stay six feet apart from your fellow members and by not congregating in common areas.
  • Staff will continually disinfect and sanitize equipment and common areas during our hours of operation.
  • The Y will close for a thirty-minute period in the middle of the day to allow staff to thoroughly disinfect the equipment and common spaces in the middle of the day.
  • At the end of each day, a full, top to bottom cleaning and disinfecting process will take place in the facility, ensuring the facility and the equipment is ready for opening the next morning.

When it becomes safe for us to expand our YMCA operations, we will begin with the following areas:

  • Group Exercise classes will resume with a limited offering and with new social distancing guidelines.
  • Indoor and Outdoor Swimming Pools will re-open with limited schedules. The re-opening of these popular spaces is however contingent upon County Health Department officials re-starting the annual inspections process and giving us the approval to operate our pools.

Our leadership team is continuing to monitor the science and data being shared for each of the communities we serve. We remain in close contact with our local health and government officials so we can make the best and safest decisions for our members and staff.  Staff teams are working diligently to get you all back to the Y.

Our mission is to connect people, build relationships, support each other, navigate a path to health and wellness, and combat the serious issues affecting our community. Our members are the backbone of our mission. You are in our hearts and our minds.  We look forward to seeing your smiling faces and hearing the warmth of your laughter as we find the rhythm of our new routine. Because that time will come!

We know you have a lot of questions regarding the status of our summer camp program offerings. Our YMCA of Coastal Georgia staff continues to plan for a fun filled summer and is taking mindful steps and getting guidance from government and health officials. While this may mean a modified schedule in terms of the number of weeks we can offer day camp, we are still planning on offering a quality line up of camp programming this summer.

At the current time we are only doing the initial program registration for camp which will save your spot! To do this, you only have to pay our registration fee. All of our camp registration can be done on-line. Our staff team will communicate with you via email as well as share updates on our website with next steps for registering for specific camp programming. More information and updates can be found by clicking here.

For our families who have registered for spring sports, a separate email will be sent to you later today that outlines your options and our plans.

We have also received a lot of questions about swim lessons. At this time, all of our pools (indoor and outdoor remain closed). We will share our re-opening plans for these pools and for our swim lesson programming as soon as they become available.
