SAVANNAH, GA FEBRUARY 26, 2018 – This past weekend, top YMCA youth basketball teams from across the state of Georgia gathered in Suwanee, Georgia to compete at the 26th Annual YMCA Basketball State Tournament. The YMCA of Coastal Georgia was proud to compete for the 26th time. The 12 and under team ended the tournament as State Champions, beating out seven other teams for the title.
The YMCA of Coastal Georgia All-Stars team led by Coaches Tommy Hurst and Craig Carroll included the following players: Nathan Anderson, Hannah Cail, Jaelen Cheaves, Malachi Davis, Larry Johnson, Neko Mosely, Trenton Rhodes, Tyler Tift, Charlie Vogler and Austin Wiggins. These players, from YMCA of Coastal Georgia teams across branches, vied for a spot on the team from a group of 25 promising players. The All-stars went into the tournament ready to play, winning four out of four games over the weekend. At the final game, the All-stars came from behind in the fourth quarter to ultimately win the Championship Title.
“I could not be more proud of our players,” says Tommy Hurst, Youth Director and All-Star Coach. “This is the fifth All-Star team I’ve taken to the State Championship and they left it all on the court. However, what I am most proud of is the level of sportsmanship and compassion they displayed with their opponents, which speaks directly to what our program is all about.”
