All practices and most games will take place here at the Islands YMCA, but some games may be at other branches who participate in our league. Open to children of any skill level. The season consists of 7-8 games and ends with a tournament in our fall soccer and basketball seasons.
Our Micro Sports programs are an introduction to sports and team activities for children 3-6 years old. The program runs for eight weeks and the teams meet once a week for an hour. The first three sessions are practices where the participants will learn basic skills while the last five sessions are games. All practices and games are played here at the Islands YMCA.

The YMCA Champions Program is a program of sports skills and fun for children ages 5-14 with different abilities. Each one hour session will include skills being taught for a specific sport. After learning the skills specific to that sport, the children will participate in a fun filled game. Sports skills stations will be adapted to the participant’s skill level. Staff and volunteers will help guide and assist the participants in the sports skill stations, and of course to encourage and cheer them on during the games! This is a FREE program!

Leaders in training l.i.t. program
The Leaders In Training (LIT) Program is a special opportunity for 14-16 year olds to learn the skills needed to work with children in a YMCA camp setting. LIT’s assist in providing activities to campers in a safe and well-supervised environment. Unlike counselors, however, LIT’s are always supervised by staff when working with campers.
Time is also put aside for LIT’s to learn and practice new leadership skills, and in-service trainings will be held during the session. These trainings are mandatory; attendance and participation will be required. Trainings will cover concerns that LIT’s encounter in camp life, including discipline and group control, safety and awareness, being a role model, and creative planning. Evaluations occur at the end of each session. Further participation in the program and a future counselor position are based on the evaluations.
Participants in the L.I.T. program work under the same ground rules as all staff members, such as the following:
• They arrive in camp at least 15 minutes before camp starts to sign in
• They provide meaningful assistance while they are in camp
• They act in line with YMCA ethics, values, and standards
• They use only appropriate language or gestures
• They do not criticize the camp, campers, or staff openly, but share constructive criticism during evaluation sessions with staff, and follow the proper chain of command
• They always treat children well
• They refrain from having personal visits or making personal phone calls during camp hours
Please note, however, that this is a volunteer position and acceptance is based on application only. Once your application and references are reviewed, you may be called for an interview. Registration materials will be forwarded only upon acceptance into the program. Unfortunately not all applicants are accepted. Prior experience in the LIT program does not guarantee a place in this summer’s program.
If you have any further questions, please contact Michael Whitten at 912-897-1192 or email@example.com.
