Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Sports Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation for all Sports programming (Youth and Adult), summer Sports Camp programs and assisting the Day Camp Director at the Islands Family YMCA. Daily functions include supervising and managing program operations.  In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  1. Develop and implement sports programs for youth and adults including Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Volleyball, Pickleball, Champions Program and other programs deemed beneficial to YMCA participants.
  2. Serve as an assistant Day Camp Director, working with the Child Care and Day Camp Program Director to ensure a safe, fun and high quality program.
  3. Develop and implement summer Sports Camps offerings.
  4. Supervision of part time program staff to ensure program quality and effective program delivery.
  5. Fiscal management of all programs to achieve program and budgetary goals.
  6. Provide effective marketing of programs to community to ensure participation.
  7. Recruit, develop and train volunteers to provide effective program delivery.
  8. Maintain and oversee physical grounds for program areas including fields and gyms to ensure program quality.
  9. Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.
  10. Actively secure pledges and serve as a leader in the Annual Fund Campaign program for the YMCA.
  11. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers and program participants.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program coordinator is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Sound working knowledge of Youth and Adult Sports rules, regulations and sports techniques.
  2. Sound working knowledge of Summer Day Camp programming including schedules and age appropriate activities.
  3. Ability to develop and implement effective programs.
  4. Ability to foster positive staff, volunteers, peers and program participants.
  5. Ability to supervise multiple part-time staff.
  6. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment
  2. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines
