Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Personal Trainer is responsible for providing one-on-one fitness instruction to members. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  1. Design and implement personal exercise programs for members tailored to their individual needs according to accepted fitness standards and practices.
  2. Provide one-on-one coaching and instruction for each period of exercise as arranged by member and Personal Trainer.
  3. Ensure the safety and well-being of the individual member during each instruction period.
  4. Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.
  5. Assist in the annual Priceless Gifts fundraising program for the YMCA.
  6. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers and program participants.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Sound working knowledge of accepted fitness standards and practices.
  2. Ability to develop and implement personal exercise programs.
  3. Ability to provide fitness testing.
  4. Ability to foster positive staff, peers and program participants.
  5. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract three digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment
  2. Personal Trainer Certification required.
  3. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines
