Job Description

Are you interested in “building strong kids”? Are you experienced, enthusiastic, and creative with a great attitude? We are looking for caring summer camp counselors who want to serve as role models for youth in our community. You’ll help promote positive character values in an outdoor environment while leading youth in activities such as sports, swimming, arts & crafts and so much more!

 

Location: Liberty County YMCA

Status: Part Time- Monday to Friday, times will vary. 

Work Schedule will begin mid-late May with some training sessions on earlier dates.

 

Position Summary:

-Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a day camp.

-Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. 

 

Essential Functions:

-Effectively supervises groups of children.

-Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.

-Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.

-Attends staff meetings and training.

-Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

-Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

-High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.

-Satisfactory Bright From the Start fingerprint letter and clean back ground check

-Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting

 -Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games,

-At least 18 years of age

-CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

-Must be able to attend ALL training dates.
