Job Description

The Pre-School Assistant Teacher/Para Professional is responsible for assisting the Pre-School Lead Teacher in providing development, curriculum implementation & supervision in the classroom. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  1. Caring as primary provider for a group of children.
  2. Ensuring the care, safety, and well being of all children in the group.
  3. Assist in the planning and implementation of programs geared to preschool children; including daily theme oriented lesson plans.
  4. Setting up the physical environment to meet the needs of preschool children.
  5. Demonstrating, verbally and by role modeling, a sound knowledge of good teaching practices.
  6. Participating in staff meetings and ongoing training as deemed necessary
  7. Providing information to parents regarding their children and discussing general child development issues.
  8. Preventing incidents of child abuse, identifying incidents of abuse, and reacting properly when they occur.
  9. Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.
  10. Assist in the annual Priceless Gifts fundraising program for the YMCA.
  11. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents and children.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include overseeing and training volunteers and staff who work in the classroom; Planning, assigning, and directing work to assistants; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  7. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

None required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read resource material and transfer it to a written lesson plan. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents in a professional manner.  Ability to write articles for newsletter that conform to prescribed style and format.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment
  2. Fire Safety and DHR Core Child Care classes required within 60 days of employment.
  3. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines
